How do you raise money for something that doesn't exist yet?
This was the challenge facing Brisbane Girls Grammar School (BGGS) as it prepared to open its new Junior School.
The School wanted to build support and raise funds for its new library, but there was a catch. The library was still a year away from opening.
The original concept was straightforward. Families could support the library by purchasing a dedication plaque featuring a favourite literary quote, which would eventually be displayed in the completed space.
But asking someone to contribute thousands of dollars towards something they wouldn't see for another year presented an obvious challenge.
How could the School bring that investment to life today?
Looking beyond the obvious
Having worked closely with Queensland Ballet on its Thomas Dixon Centre redevelopment, including its theatre seat dedication campaign, Bigfish had already explored how digital technology could create a stronger connection between donors and the projects they support.
But BGGS presented an opportunity to take that thinking further.
What if the library could begin to exist online before it existed physically?
The result was the BGGS Whimsical Bookcase.
A beautifully designed, interactive digital bookshelf where families could explore books, select meaningful literary quotes and see their personalised dedications brought to life.
Instead of waiting a year for a physical plaque, donors could immediately see and share their contribution in an imaginative digital environment.
What began as a fundraising challenge became something far more engaging for the entire school community.
When design and technology push each other further
The real value of a creative partnership comes when exceptional design, technical expertise and the right technology work together.
At Bigfish, our designers push creative boundaries, our developers challenge what's possible, and our purpose-built platform, TANK, brings it all to life.
The BGGS Whimsible Bookcase is a perfect example. The challenge wasn't to build a digital library. It was to inspire families to invest in something that didn't yet exist.
By challenging conventional thinking and bringing creative and technical minds together, we delivered something far beyond the original brief.
That's the power of a partnership that doesn't just deliver what's expected, but explores what's possible.
