2026 Festival Brand
On the Banks marks the first time large-scale live music events have been staged on the QPAC Cultural Forecourt, a location set directly on the banks of the Brisbane River. Featuring international headline acts, the series represents not only a new addition to Brisbane’s cultural calendar, but the beginning of a partnership between QPAC and South Bank.
The identity is rooted in place. QPAC’s distinctive brutalist architecture, specifically its large block-patterned tiles, informed a strong modular logotype and bold typographic structure. In contrast, the energy and movement of the Brisbane River inspired hand-drawn textures created by artist Niqui Toldi and later expanded into animated form by Sem Han. This interplay between rigid geometry and organic expression creates a system that feels unmistakably Brisbane: grounded, local, and connected to its environment, yet fresh and forward-looking.
